How Change of Art Came To Be

I was notified that our district was pink slipping anyone hired after 2006. I had officially joined the district in 1999 but the 8 years I taught at the partnered charter school would not count. Egad...I just lost 8 years of seniority. I had been teaching K-5 for 28 years in a different district....so goodbye job. But WAIT...I was given a reprieve! I was a dual credential holder! I was saved! I was invited to go to the cattle call  Job Fair as a Single Subject teacher. There was one opening ...in the whole district... in art. I interviewed and came out number one! Yippie! I was going to teach art...in high school...GULP. I put myself in Proactive Mode and began gathering my resources to be the best art teacher I could be. Heck...why wouldn't I be? I taught art in 1975....what could have changed? Heh. Heh. So...a Change of Art was born.
